Exposure & Vulnerability Management Tools 2026

Exposure and vulnerability management tools answer two plain questions: what do we have, and where can an attacker get in? The category covers external attack surface management (EASM), which finds your internet-facing assets from the outside. It covers cyber asset inventory (CAASM), which pulls every asset into one list. It covers vulnerability assessment and security scanning, which check those assets for known weaknesses. It covers exposure management and CTEM platforms, which rank what to fix first. Shadow IT discovery finds the apps staff set up on their own. Teams buy here when the asset list in the CMDB does not match what an attacker can see, or when findings pile up faster than anyone can fix them.

The most comprehensive Exposure & Vulnerability Management directory, covering External Attack Surface Management, Cyber Asset Attack Surface Management, Exposure Management, Shadow IT Discovery, Vulnerability Assessment, Security Scanning. Filter by use case, pricing, or specialization, and compare tools side by side to find the right fit. Independent and vendor-neutral: our scores and rankings are earned, never bought — sponsored placement is always labeled.

We cover 636 Exposure & Vulnerability Management tools, 208 free and 428 commercial.

External Attack Surface Management

External Attack Surface Management (EASM) tools for discovering and securing internet-facing assets, domains, and exposed services.

Cyber Asset Attack Surface Management

Cyber Asset Attack Surface Management (CAASM) platforms for comprehensive cyber asset inventory, attack surface visibility, and security posture management across IT environments.

Exposure Management

Exposure management and CTEM solutions for continuously identifying, prioritizing, and remediating security exposures across the entire attack surface.

How to choose Exposure & Vulnerability Management tools

  • Start with your real gap: unknown external assets (EASM), a broken inventory (CAASM), flaws you have not found yet (vulnerability assessment and scanning), or more findings than you can fix (exposure management).
  • Check attribution accuracy. A tool that claims assets you do not own, or misses ones you do, creates noise and erodes trust in the whole program.
  • Ask how often discovery and scans run. Continuous checks beat snapshots that go stale between scans.
  • Judge how findings are ranked, not how many there are. Good tools sort by exploitability, reachability, and business impact.
  • Check the integrations with your cloud accounts, EDR, CMDB, and ticketing, because a finding that never reaches an owner never gets fixed.
  • Match the tool to your team. A lean team needs low noise and clear priorities. A large program may want raw data, custom queries, and API access.

Exposure & Vulnerability Management Tools FAQ

Common questions about Exposure & Vulnerability Management tools, selection guides, pricing, and comparisons.

It is the work of finding every asset you own, checking each one for weaknesses, and fixing the ones that matter most. It starts with discovery: internet-facing systems, cloud resources, and apps nobody told security about. Then scanners and assessment tools look for known flaws and bad settings. Last, exposure management ranks the results by how easy they are to exploit and how much damage they could do.

EASM looks at you from the outside, the way an attacker on the internet would. CAASM builds a full inventory from the inside by reading data from tools you already run. Vulnerability assessment and security scanning test known assets for flaws. Exposure management sits on top. It joins the findings and ranks them, so the team fixes the few that are truly reachable. Many teams start with one and add the others as the program grows.

CTEM stands for continuous threat exposure management. It is a program, not a single product. It runs in a loop: set the scope, find assets and weaknesses, rank them, check which ones an attacker could really use, and get them fixed. Exposure management platforms support that loop. The checking step often uses Offensive Security tools, such as breach and attack simulation.

No. This category finds and ranks weaknesses in your own assets. Penetration testing, red teaming, and breach and attack simulation sit in Offensive Security. They prove whether a weakness can really be exploited. Digital risk protection and brand protection sit in Threat Intelligence. They watch attackers and threats outside your company. The three work together, but each answers a different question.

Open-source scanners and recon tools are strong for point-in-time checks and small estates. They fall short on continuous discovery, asset ownership tracking, ranking at scale, and ticketing. Many teams use open-source tools to check or add to a commercial platform. The honest test is whether your team is doing by hand what a platform would do for it.
