Security Onion Pro is a commercial license tier for the Security Onion open-source network security monitoring and SIEM platform. It adds enterprise features on top of the free Community edition, including single sign-on via OpenID Connect, outbound alert notifications (email, Slack, etc.), storage-level AES 256 encryption (LUKS), FIPS compliance, and STIG compliance for CAT 1 OS issues.
The license also enables Manager of Managers functionality for handling multiple grids from one login, an MCP server and AI security assistant for querying alerts and playbooks via AI/LLM, guaranteed message delivery through Kafka, active query management for Elastic, and custom/built-in reporting with CSV export.
Beyond software features, Pro includes professional services and support: initial response SLAs (one business day, or four business hours as an upgrade), architecture planning, deployment, tuning, and break/fix support hours, two free annual health checks, and up to two free offline update shipments per year for airgapped deployments.
Licensing is based on the number of Security Onion nodes (Manager, Receiver, Search, Sensor, Heavy, IDH, Fleet nodes) joined to the grid, with a standard license covering up to ten nodes and additional node packs available. Some hardware appliances include a single-node Pro license by default. The underlying platform provides network and host-based intrusion detection, threat hunting, case management, packet capture (PCAP), endpoint monitoring via Fleet/osquery, detection rule management (Sigma, Suricata, YARA), dashboards, and a MITRE ATT&CK Navigator for coverage visualization.
