Labrador Labs SCION is a next-generation inter-domain routing protocol and network ecosystem developed originally at ETH Zurich. Labrador Labs distributes and supports SCION as Anapaya's sole Asia-Pacific partner. SCION (Scalability, Control, and Isolation On Next-generation networks) is designed to address fundamental security and reliability shortcomings of the current internet, including vulnerability to BGP hijacking and denial-of-service attacks. The protocol operates through three core properties: Control: - Provides path-control, failure isolation, and explicit trust information for end-to-end communication - Allows end-users to select transmission paths based on policies optimized for location, speed, cost, and quality - Supports geo-fencing to avoid specific jurisdictions or regions for compliance and security purposes Reliability: - Enables multi-path communication to ensure high availability - Supports sub-second failover when a network path fails - Provides reserved global bandwidth and dynamic traffic optimization Security: - Immune by design to a broad range of routing attacks, including BGP hijacking - Offers DDoS protection through hidden paths, source authentication, and global bandwidth reservation The SCION-Internet is an international ecosystem of internet, telecom, and cloud service providers using the SCIONway framework. End-customers connect to this ecosystem by installing Anapaya EDGE on their premises and linking to the nearest SCION-connectivity provider. The solution is primarily targeted at businesses requiring high availability, global performance, and secure inter-domain connectivity.
