Tempered Airwall

Airwall is a network security product from Tempered Networks that creates identity-based, zero trust private overlay networks on top of existing network infrastructure. It uses the Host Identity Protocol (HIP), an IETF standard, to establish encrypted tunnels between devices based on cryptographic identities rather than IP addresses. This allows organizations to microsegment networks, restrict communications between devices, and control access without modifying underlying physical or cloud network infrastructure. Airwall is positioned for securing critical infrastructure and OT environments, providing remote access, cloud connectivity, and device-to-device communication across public, private, or shared networks. Policies are managed through a centralized software-defined controller that provides a single management console for defining identity-driven access policies, managing users, groups, and devices, and orchestrating private networks at scale. The product also supports mirroring network traffic to third-party threat detection tools for visibility and correlation in OT environments. Key claims include reducing attack surface, eliminating unauthorized lateral movement, and lowering the cost and complexity compared to traditional network security tools such as firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, and ACLs.
