The Security Baseline Check (SBC) is a cybersecurity risk assessment service developed by Perseus, designed specifically for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with up to 100 computer workstations. The SBC evaluates a company's IT infrastructure against baseline security standards through a two-part process: 1. **Questionnaire:** Covers organizational security measures in place at the company. 2. **Live Check:** A hands-on technical review of selected systems to verify whether security standards are being met. This includes an optional external scan to identify vulnerabilities that could be exploited by attackers from outside the network. Based on the findings, the SBC produces a detailed report outlining the company's current security posture relative to minimum IT security standards, and provides prioritized recommendations for remediation. The SBC addresses both technical requirements (e.g., system configurations, backup verification) and organizational measures (e.g., policies and processes), distinguishing it from tools that focus on only one of these dimensions. The assessment is conducted through direct interaction with the customer. The service is positioned as a foundational risk assessment step within a broader IT security strategy that includes prevention, risk assessment, incident response, and risk transfer (e.g., cyber insurance). It is also noted as a useful starting point for companies subject to NIS2 requirements or operating in critical infrastructure sectors. An integration with Enginsight's Hacktor tool enables external vulnerability scanning as part of the assessment, with results included in the final report.
