The course addresses malware analysis, rootkits, backdoors, and command-and-control mechanisms. The incident handling process is taught following NIST and SANS frameworks, covering preparation, detection, containment, eradication, and recovery phases. Students work with intrusion detection systems and learn to deploy and analyze alerts. Password cracking and control bypass techniques are demonstrated using various tools. The course is delivered as an onsite format for groups of 5 or more. The GCIH certification exam consists of 106 multiple-choice questions, is open book, has a 4-hour duration, and requires a 70% passing score.
