Tripwire is a cybersecurity company that develops software for security configuration management, file integrity monitoring, vulnerability management, and log intelligence. Founded in 1997 by Gene Kim, based on academic research into file integrity monitoring (FIM) originally released in 1992, the company built its business around detecting unauthorized changes to IT systems and files. The company's product portfolio includes Tripwire Enterprise, a security configuration management and file integrity monitoring suite; Tripwire IP360, an asset discovery and vulnerability management solution obtained through the 2013 acquisition of nCircle; and Tripwire LogCenter, a log intelligence tool developed following the 2010 acquisition of ActiveWorx Technologies. Tripwire also offers ExpertOps, a managed services option supporting security configuration management, vulnerability management, and operational technology (OT) security programs. Tripwire serves organizations in sectors such as finance, retail, industrial, healthcare, and government, including operational technology environments in utilities, manufacturing, and energy. The company also maintains integrations with third-party platforms including ServiceNow, Splunk, AWS, and Claroty. Tripwire was acquired by Belden in 2015 and later by HelpSystems (now Fortra) in 2022, and currently operates as part of Fortra's cybersecurity portfolio. It holds more than 40 patents related to its security configuration management and monitoring technologies.
