genuscreen is a hardware appliance (also available as a virtual edition) that combines firewall and VPN functionality for securing data transfers across public networks and protecting internal network segments. As a firewall, genuscreen filters traffic at network interfaces, permitting only explicitly authorized connections and blocking all others. As a VPN gateway, it establishes strongly encrypted Virtual Private Networks over public infrastructure, enabling secure transmission of sensitive data between sites. The product holds BSI approval for classified data up to VS-NfD, NATO RESTRICTED, and RESTREINT UE/EU RESTRICTED levels, and is certified under Common Criteria (CC) EAL 4+. The VPN component supports IPsec/IKEv2 with post-quantum (quantum-resistant) key exchange, providing protection against future quantum computing-based attacks. genuscreen supports GEO-IP filtering for country-based network access control and scales to installations exceeding 1,000 systems. It can be centrally managed and functions as a universal remote access (RAS) dial-in platform. A virtual variant, genuscreen Virtual, is available for deployment on hypervisors and carries the same VS-NfD, NATO RESTRICTED, and RESTREINT UE/EU RESTRICTED approvals. The product is developed in Germany and uses backdoor-free VPN technology. It supports a range of VPN clients across multiple operating systems and platforms.
