Deterministic Security, LLC (DTRSEC)

Deterministic Security, LLC (DTRSEC) is a Delaware-based company founded in June 2017 to commercialize REnigma, a malware analysis technology licensed from the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU/APL). REnigma was originally developed by the company's co-founders and other researchers at JHU/APL over several years while working with the US Department of Defense and the US Department of Homeland Security. Prior to the founding of DTRSEC, REnigma was selected as one of eight technologies from national research laboratories for inclusion in the DHS Transition to Practice (TTP) Program for the 2016 class of technologies. The TTP program provided training, testing, and other resources to help transition the technology from JHU/APL into a startup company. Since the company's founding, the co-founders have continued development of REnigma, moving it from a research prototype into a commercial product. REnigma is a record-and-replay based malware analysis tool that uses virtual machine introspection to capture and replay malware execution, allowing organizations and analysts to study malware behavior in detail. The company's target customers include organizations seeking to analyze malware samples and improve their security posture through detailed forensic replay and analysis capabilities. The founding team includes Dr. Julian B. Grizzard, who has over 20 years of experience in computer security research including work on honeynets and rootkit recovery, and James M. Stevens, who has 20 years of experience in systems programming and hardware design, including invention of the Guard Lines exploit mitigation technology. Both were researchers at JHU/APL prior to founding DTRSEC.
