Bitwise is an FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) analysis and security platform developed by Red Balloon Security. The platform enables organizations to assess and enhance the security of FPGA bitstreams without requiring access to project design documents or vendor source code. The platform provides three core capabilities: Analyze, Transform, and Harden. The Analyze function validates security configurations, identifies risks and mitigations, and generates security reports. Transform performs AES-GCM encryption/decryption and RSA signature re-signing/verification. Harden removes and injects commands to prevent breaking of encryption. Bitwise verifies whether security configurations specified in a generated bitstream are accurately implemented within an FPGA design and provides a security rating. The platform evaluates Level of Assurance (LoA) threat descriptions, provides security scores, recommends risk mitigations, and applies security fixes.
