Security University Q/SA (Qualified/Security Analyst) Certification Class is a 40-hour instructor-led training program focused on vulnerability analysis and penetration testing. The course teaches students to identify network vulnerabilities and perform penetration tests using a structured methodology designed to avoid causing harm to target systems. The program combines classroom instruction with hands-on laboratory exercises where students probe target networks, gain user-level access, and demonstrate potential network compromises. Students learn to conduct reconnaissance using metadata and public information, perform network sweeps and port scans, execute vulnerability scans, and utilize exploitation frameworks. The certification requires students to complete nightly exercises that increase in complexity and scope. To earn the Q/PTL (Qualified/Penetration Tester License), students must perform a real penetration test on the final day of class and submit a detailed management report within 60 days. The course covers password attacks, wireless network exploitation, web application vulnerabilities, privilege escalation, and anti-forensics techniques. The training is CNSS-approved and uses the same penetration testing methodology employed by US military branches. Students work with various operating systems including Windows, Linux, and VMWare environments. The course awards 40 CPE credits and 3 CEU credits upon completion. Prerequisites include understanding of TCP/IP protocols, and passing requires 95% attendance and 100% lab completion.
