Runta

Runta builds infrastructure to govern the runtime behavior of AI agents. The company's founding team previously built boundary infrastructure at Cloudflare and Kong, including edge networks, DDoS protection, API gateways, and LLM gateways used by some of the largest companies in the world. Team members have also contributed to open source runtime projects such as Tokio and OpenResty. The company's premise is that traditional security enforcement, which sits at the network or application boundary in front of software, does not work for AI agents because agent behavior is generated dynamically at runtime rather than defined in advance. Runta is building an enforcement layer that operates within the execution environment where agents run, allowing organizations to observe and control agent actions at the point of execution rather than only at a perimeter. Runta is led by founder Guanlan Dai, who was an early engineer and later led the Edge Platform team at Cloudflare, helping scale that infrastructure to more than 10 trillion requests per month for over 2.5 billion users. He was also a founding engineering leader at Kong, building the teams behind Kong Gateway, Kong Cloud, the Kubernetes Ingress Controller, and Kong's AI infrastructure products. The company is backed by investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Google DeepMind's Jeff Dean, World Labs' Fei-Fei Li, Databricks' Ali Ghodsi, Sherpalo Ventures' Ram Shriram, and Hugging Face's Thomas Wolf.
