Kolide Description

Kolide (now part of 1Password as "1Password Extended Access Management") is a device trust and endpoint security platform designed to enforce zero trust access policies, primarily through integration with Okta. The platform enables organizations to monitor the security and compliance posture of Linux, macOS, and Windows devices across their fleet, blocking or restricting access to corporate applications from devices that do not meet defined security requirements. Kolide's core capabilities include security and compliance checks, device inventory management, and a self-remediation workflow that engages end-users directly during the authentication process to resolve security issues before access is granted. Rather than silently enforcing policy, Kolide's approach—branded as "Honest Security"—emphasizes transparency with end-users: employees are informed about what data is being collected from their devices and why, and are given the opportunity to remediate issues themselves. The platform is aimed at IT and security teams in organizations using Okta for identity management. It supports use cases including achieving and maintaining device compliance, gaining fleet-wide visibility, and implementing zero trust access controls. Kolide also introduced mobile checks, extending its monitoring capabilities beyond traditional desktop operating systems. Kolide was founded on a philosophy that prioritizes end-user trust and informed consent as components of an effective security program, arguing that transparency and user cooperation produce better security outcomes than covert monitoring. The company was acquired by 1Password and its technology has been integrated into the 1Password Extended Access Management product.
