Atomicorp Vulnerability Detection and Management is a capability set within the Atomic OSSEC detection and response platform. It enables IT security teams to identify, assess, and remediate software and system vulnerabilities across a range of operating systems and application environments. The solution benchmarks against MITRE CVE and NIST NVD databases to detect known vulnerabilities across Linux, Windows, AIX, and other operating systems, including end-of-life (EOL) systems such as CentOS 5, Ubuntu 16–18, RHEL 5–6, and various EOL Windows and macOS versions. Beyond point-to-point CVE scanning, the platform addresses MITRE Common Weakness Enumeration (CWE) class-level weaknesses, WontFix bugs, and misconfigurations that could enable lateral movement. Vulnerabilities are prioritized by severity and risk, and affected assets can be grouped for coordinated remediation. For unpatchable vulnerabilities — including EOL software, insecure protocol versions, and WontFix vendor policies — the platform applies advanced detection and response mechanisms to mitigate exposure rather than relying solely on patching. Response capabilities include alerts, automation, active response (isolation of compromised systems, malware removal, intruder blocking), a CLI, API, SIEM integration, and a visualization GUI with management and reporting console. Additional security layers include antivirus/antimalware, intrusion and malware detection, real-time file integrity monitoring (FIM), malware memory analysis, malware isolation, and global threat intelligence. The platform supports defense-in-depth security to impede lateral movement, privilege escalation, data access, and exfiltration.
