VitalSigns for FTP (VFTP) is a security and automation tool for managing file transfers on IBM z/OS mainframe environments. It wraps around FTP servers and clients on z/OS to control, monitor, and secure FTP traffic, including redirecting it through encrypted channels. VFTP intercepts FTP commands and can transparently redirect batch job file transfers through SSH tunnels or convert them to SFTP, without requiring changes to existing JCL (Job Control Language). This allows organizations to encrypt legacy FTP traffic without modifying existing workflows. Security is enforced through integration with mainframe SAF-compliant security products (RACF, ACF2, Top Secret), treating FTP server commands as secure resources subject to access control policy. Individual FTP commands can be secured at a granular level. The product provides complete visibility into mainframe file transfer activity through detailed logging and tracking of all FTP sessions, including who transferred what, when, where, and how. A browser-based GUI delivers real-time FTP status information, and real-time notifications are generated when z/OS FTP jobs fail. VFTP supports compliance with regulatory frameworks including GDPR, SOX, GLBA, HIPAA, and PCI DSS by providing comprehensive audit trails for all file transfer activity. VFTP can be used alongside Tectia SSH to form a combined secure file transfer solution (VFTP-SSH Collaboration) covering transfers between z/OS and other platforms. It also includes a scripting language for z/OS batch jobs to further automate file transfer operations.
