MailXaminer Computer Forensic Tool is a digital forensics application designed for investigating email data across desktop-based and cloud-based email platforms. It enables forensic examiners to acquire, analyze, and report on email evidence from a variety of file formats and sources. The tool supports case management with features such as case repository creation, scan status tracking, log files, and bookmarking. Investigators can examine email data stored in disk image formats including E01, DD, LEF, DMG, and Zip archives. It supports 20+ email file types from desktop clients as well as cloud platforms such as Gmail, Office 365, Rackspace, iCloud, and Hotmail. Multiple preview modes are available for email examination, including Normal, Hex, RTF, MIME, Attachment, Property, and Email Hop views. The tool provides hash value computation and display (SHA1, SHA256, MD5) for suspected email items. OCR (Optical Character Recognition) is included to search content within images. Search functionality includes keyword-based filtering, Regular Expression, Fuzzy, Wildcard, Proximity, and other logical search operators. A link analysis mechanism allows investigators to map connections between different suspects. The tool also supports investigation of Skype application data, including chat messages, SMS, and call records. GPS/geolocation data can be exported to KML format for viewing in Google Earth. Deleted email components can be recovered, and evidence can be exported in formats including CSV, EML, HTML, TIFF, PST, PDF, and TIFF. Investigation reports covering tags, keywords, bookmarks, and domain-wise sender/recipient data can be exported in HTML, CSV, and PDF formats. Team collaboration is supported for multi-examiner casework.
