EdgeWave EPIC Next Generation Firewall is a network security appliance that provides application-layer threat detection and network protection capabilities. The product is no longer available for new sales and has reached end-of-life status. The firewall identifies over 6,000 application protocols and provides granular access control based on six dimensions: application, content, time, user, attack, and location (ACTUAL). It includes an Intelligent Awareness Engine (IAE) for parallel processing of security functions. Security features include intrusion prevention with over 3,500 attack signatures, antivirus scanning for more than 5 million threats, and content detection for data leak prevention. The system defends against Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) attacks using a reputation system and provides protection against DDoS attacks including SYN flood and UDP flood. Web security capabilities include cloud-based URL filtering with over 85 million URLs across 80+ categories, defense against web application attacks such as cross-site scripting and SQL injection, and HTTP/HTTPS/FTP content awareness. The platform offers Smart Policy Management Optimization with automatic traffic learning and policy update suggestions. It analyzes policy matching ratios to identify redundant and invalid policies. The system supports eight authentication methods including RADIUS, Active Directory, LDAP, and SecureID. VPN technologies supported include IPSec VPN, SSL VPN, L2TP VPN, MPLS VPN, and GRE. Routing protocols include RIP, OSPF, BGP, IS-IS for IPv4 and RIPng, OSPFv3, BGP4+ for IPv6. The USG6300 series includes models USG6320, USG6330, USG6350, and USG6370 with varying throughput capacities ranging from 1-4 Gbit/s firewall throughput and 500 Mbit/s to 2 Gbit/s IPS throughput.
