Watchful provides AI-powered video monitoring solutions for security companies and monitoring operations. Founded in 2022 by Joshua Parsons, a former New Zealand Police officer, the company developed its platform to enhance threat detection and reduce false alarms in physical security monitoring. The platform integrates with existing security infrastructure including CCTV systems, NVRs, VMS platforms, sensors, and access control systems. The AI technology analyzes video feeds to distinguish between genuine security threats and harmless activity, enabling monitoring operators to oversee significantly more cameras simultaneously while maintaining detection accuracy. The system connects to alarm systems and can dispatch alerts to users, guards, and police as needed. Watchful targets security service providers and monitoring companies, offering both direct platform access and white-label solutions that allow partners to rebrand the technology as their own. The company's approach focuses on crime prevention by enabling faster threat identification before incidents occur. The company raised a $4.65 million NZD seed round led by Blackbird Ventures in October 2024 to support expansion into the US market. Additional investors include Icehouse Ventures, K1W1, and Coreline. Watchful also received a $400,000 R&D grant from Callaghan Innovation, New Zealand's government innovation agency. The first production version of the platform launched in New Zealand in December 2022.
