Metallic File & Object Backup is a cloud-based Backup as a Service (BaaS) solution designed to protect unstructured data across on-premises file servers and cloud-native object storage environments. Supported platforms include Microsoft Windows Server, Linux/UNIX file systems, Azure Blob Storage, Azure Files, OCI Object Storage, and Amazon S3. The product provides granular recovery and point-in-time restores, along with deduplication and compression to optimize storage performance. Data is protected with in-flight and at-rest encryption, and the service maintains GDPR compliance. Authentication is managed through role-based access controls, SSO, and SAML. Ransomware protection is provided via anomaly detection and air-gapped copies of data. Storage options include Metallic's own cloud storage (Metallic Recovery Reserve on Azure or OCI), bring-your-own cloud storage (Azure Blob, OCI Object Storage, Amazon S3, HPE Cloud Volumes Backup), and on-premises storage solutions from vendors including Commvault, NetApp, Dell EMC, Pure Storage, Hitachi, and HPE. The service follows a subscription-based commercial pricing model, billed per TB per month for physical systems or cloud workloads, with volume discounts available. Microsoft Active Directory and Azure Active Directory Backup is included at no additional cost with any Metallic subscription purchase.
