The appliance operates at the network perimeter to filter inbound and outbound email traffic for threats including spam, viruses, spyware, phishing, and malicious content. The appliance is a fully managed solution that requires no software installation or additional hardware. EdgeWave engineers provide monitoring and maintenance of the appliance around the clock. The device includes its own hardened and optimized operating system. The MAG4000e uses behavior-based filtering technology with Zero Minute Defense, where engineers analyze emerging threats and create protection rules that are automatically applied to the appliance. The system includes Adaptive Threat Detection for multi-layered protection at the perimeter against denial of service and email-borne attacks. Email is spooled for up to 96 hours for disaster recovery purposes. The appliance includes TLS encryption capabilities for securing email communications through certificate-based private email networks. Outbound spam and virus filtering is included to protect against blacklisting. Administrative functions are managed through a web-based dashboard. End users can access a Personal Dashboard to review quarantined messages and receive Spam Digest reports. The system includes reporting tools for generating aggregate reports across the organization or for individual users. The appliance can be configured in clusters for large enterprise deployments and distributed networks. It can be combined with hosted SaaS services for failover protection through Vx Technology, which shifts filtering to hosted services during network interruptions or power failures.
