Docker Description

Docker is a container platform that enables developers to build, test, and deploy applications in containerized environments. The platform provides Docker Desktop for local development, allowing users to spin up containers and define multi-service applications on their machines. The platform includes Docker Hardened Images, which are Apache 2.0-licensed container images designed with minimal attack surfaces. These images feature distroless Debian and Alpine variants that reduce footprint by up to 97% and claim up to 95% CVE reduction through continuous rebuilding. Images include Software Bill of Materials (SBOMs) and SLSA Level 3 provenance verification. Docker Hub serves as a registry providing access to container images. The platform supports Docker Compose for orchestrating multi-container applications through configuration files. Docker MCP integration enables AI agents to connect with Model Context Protocol servers running as containers. Security features include automated vulnerability scanning, signed and verified images, runtime isolation, and organizational policy enforcement through hardened Docker Desktop. Extended Lifecycle Support is available as an add-on for end-of-life images, providing multi-year CVE patches and updated SBOMs. The platform supports deployment across local machines, cloud environments, and Docker Cloud. It includes access to language runtimes, frameworks, databases, application images, and Helm charts that are FIPS and STIG ready.
