Data Shepherd Secure Online Backup is a managed backup service that creates copies of critical data and stores them on remote servers for recovery following data-loss events. It supports on-premises, cloud, and hybrid deployment models, and is available for businesses and managed service providers (MSPs), with a white-label option for MSPs to offer the service to their clients. Data is compressed, encrypted using 128-bit or 256-bit AES encryption, and transmitted to remote servers via SSL. An optional secondary replication to an additional remote location provides a further layer of redundancy. Restores are described as 100% compatible with original file formats. The service supports a wide range of operating systems including Windows, Linux, Mac, NetWare, UNIX, and NAS devices. Backup jobs are scheduled to run automatically and are configured to execute only when CPU utilisation falls below a defined threshold (e.g., 20%), minimising impact on system performance. Management is handled through an integrated web administration console. Administrators can manage user accounts and receive daily backup reports via email. The service requires no capital outlay and is described as compatible with existing IT infrastructure.
