Exercises are structured as "missions" within Cloud Range's virtual environment, where participants are not informed of the attack scenario in advance — similar to an escape room format. Teams use commercially licensed and open-source security tools (SIEMs, firewalls, IDS, endpoint security, and analysis tools) within controlled IT, OT, and cloud environments to detect, investigate, respond to, and remediate simulated attacks. Scenarios are mapped to the MITRE ATT&CK framework and cover threat types such as ransomware, insider threats, and advanced persistent threats (APTs). Exercises are tailored based on industry-specific attack trends, team experience levels, and organizational objectives. Each session is overseen by Cloud Range security experts who guide teams in real time, evaluate technical and soft skills (communication, collaboration, critical thinking), and prescribe individualized learning plans. The platform includes a Performance Portal that tracks individual and team progress, maps results to the NIST/NICE Workforce Framework for Cybersecurity (KSAs), and produces reporting to demonstrate measurable improvement over time. Blue team exercises are typically delivered as part of a FlexRange program — a planned series of recurring simulations. Monthly sessions are common, with frequency adapted to organizational needs.
