VanDyke VShell® 5.0 Server (Beta) Description
VShell Server is a multi-protocol secure file transfer and remote access server that supports SSH2, SFTP, FTPS, and HTTPS protocols. The server provides secure data transmission with authentication and encryption capabilities. The product offers fine-grained access control through Access Control Lists (ACLs) that allow administrators to grant or deny access to specific services including shell, SFTP, SCP, port forwarding, and file transfer protocols on a per-user or per-group basis. Virtual root directories enable administrators to restrict user access to specific directory paths, with Windows ACL support for permission management. VShell includes an internal user database that eliminates the need to create system accounts for VShell-only access. The server integrates with Windows Active Directory and LDAP for user authentication. Authentication methods for SSH2 include public-key, Kerberos, and two-factor authentication options. The trigger system enables automated responses to events such as file uploads, downloads, files added to folders, and failed logon attempts. The RunAs Commands feature allows less privileged users to execute specific commands or scripts requiring elevated privileges. VShell Monitor provides real-time connection monitoring, displaying active connections to the server. Logging capabilities include output to VShell log files, Windows system logs, or remote syslog/syslog-ng servers, with configurable message groups for errors, warnings, connections, authentications, and protocol-specific events. The server runs on Windows, Linux, and macOS platforms, supporting physical servers, virtual machines, and cloud-based deployments. Command-line utilities include vsftp for SFTP file transfer, vsh for shell access, vcp for file transfer, and vkeygen for key generation. Windows deployments include the VRALIB COM API for SSH2 connection scripting.
