Nym Network is a decentralized, permissionless privacy infrastructure that routes and anonymizes network traffic using a mixnet architecture. It is designed to protect users from metadata surveillance and traffic analysis by AI-powered systems. The network operates at Layer 0, meaning any application, blockchain, or system can route traffic through it to make users unlinkable from their metadata. It achieves this through three primary mechanisms: multi-layer (onion) encryption for mixnet routing, cover traffic ("noise") generation to obscure communication patterns, and zero-knowledge credential proofs (zk-nym) that decouple network usage from payment identity. The network is governed and operated by a globally distributed set of node operators who are rewarded with NYM tokens for routing and anonymizing user traffic. Node operators compete for rewards based on performance, bonded tokens, and configured profit margins. The underlying tokenomics run on the Nyx blockchain, built on the Cosmos SDK. Users and developers can access the network through: - Rust and TypeScript SDKs for application integration - Nym CLI and Nyxd binary for blockchain interaction - Nym Wallet for Nyx-chain interactions - Nym Explorer for viewing network node configuration and performance - NymVPN, which uses WireGuard for decentralized VPN connections Node operators do not have visibility into origin, destination, or content of routed packets. Each node only knows the next hop in the routing path. A strict no-logs policy is enforced via operator terms and conditions.
