NuID is an authentication API and decentralized identity platform for websites and applications. It uses zero-knowledge cryptography to verify user credentials without requiring servers to store passwords or other authentication secrets. Core Mechanism: Instead of transmitting a password to a server and storing a hash, NuID generates a zero-knowledge proof of the authentication secret on the client device. This proof is used server-side to verify the user without any private data leaving the device. This eliminates the traditional hash-and-store model of authentication. Distributed Ledger Integration: NuID combines zero-knowledge proofs with distributed ledger technology to remove reliance on any centralized party for credential storage. Users retain ownership of their authentication credentials. WebAuthn Support: The platform supports WebAuthn as an authentication method alongside traditional email/password flows.
