Niagara Networks Terminal Access Point (TAP) Description
The Niagara Networks Terminal Access Point (TAP) is a hardware network TAP (Test Access Point) solution designed to provide passive, out-of-band visibility into network traffic for monitoring and security tools. A network TAP is an external hardware device that connects inline on a network link and creates copies of all traffic passing through that link, delivering those copies to monitoring or security tools without impacting live network performance. Unlike SPAN ports (Switch Port Analyzer), a network TAP captures all traffic — including errors and full-duplex flows — without dropping packets or being subject to switch resource constraints. The TAP solution is positioned within Niagara Networks' broader High-Availability & TAPs product line and includes several hardware form factors: - Multi-purpose hybrid bypass switches (models 3808E, 3299, 3296) - Any-rate modular passive TAP (model 3225) Key use cases include feeding traffic copies to network monitoring tools, security inspection platforms, and performance analysis systems. The solution is part of a larger network visibility portfolio that also encompasses Network Packet Brokers, Bypass Switches, SSL/TLS Decryption, and a unified visibility orchestration layer (NVC). The product is designed and manufactured in Silicon Valley, USA, and targets NetOps and SecOps teams seeking reliable, passive traffic access across physical network infrastructure.
