FileDrop is a free, open-source SFTP client built for desktop use, focused on simplifying file transfers via a drag-and-drop interface. It is cross-platform, supporting Windows, macOS, and Linux, and is distributed under the GPL license. The client is built on Maverick Synergy, JADAPTIVE's open-source Java SSH API, and leverages a proprietary "push" technology to accelerate upload speeds. Lab tests indicate transfer performance of approximately 2.5x to 3x the speed of the standard OpenSSH sftp command-line client's 'put' command. This is achieved through parallel chunked uploads, with a default chunking size of 3 concurrent upload streams. The interface presents a carousel-style view of saved server connections, allowing users to switch between servers and select upload destinations without navigating complex menus. File transfers are initiated by dragging files onto the application window. Source code is publicly available on GitHub, and the project accepts community contributions via pull requests.
