Cigent SSD Enterprise Data Protection Description
Cigent SSD Enterprise Data Protection is a hardware-based secure storage solution designed for enterprise workstations and servers handling sensitive and classified data. It combines hardware Full Drive Encryption (FDE) with Software Full Drive Encryption (SW FDE) in a dual-layer architecture aligned with NSA Commercial Solutions for Classified (CSfC) Data-at-Rest (DAR) requirements and FIPS 140-3 standards. The outer encryption layer uses AES-256 hardware FDE paired with Pre-Boot Authentication (PBA), which operates in a separate, isolated environment to unlock drive encryption before the OS loads. This prevents OS-level compromise from exposing data. Encryption keys are not stored in the TPM or in aggregate, reducing the risk of interception. The inner layer employs AES-256 Software FDE with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), supporting smart card authentication requiring both a physical credential and a PIN. Both layers use NSA-validated cryptography and operate independently of one another. The solution supports multi-drive and RAID configurations, making it suitable for high-performance servers and storage arrays deployed outside traditional data centers. Administration is handled via a CLI utility compatible with both Windows and Linux environments. Data sanitization capabilities include crypto and block erasure methods, executable locally, remotely, or through automated rule-based policies. The SSDs also protect against clone and wipe attacks by locking all data ranges and utilizing hidden partitions. Drive form factors include M.2 2280 and M.2 2230 SSDs. Cigent has received validation from MITRE, NIST, NSA, NIAP, and the Air Force, and is deployed across U.S. Intelligence and Defense agencies.
