Blaze DDoS Protection is a Distributed Denial of Service mitigation service that protects networks, services, and servers from DDoS attacks by filtering malicious traffic through scrubbing centers. The service is delivered in partnership with Lumen, leveraging their global IP backbone network with over 80 Tbps total attack ingestion capability. The solution operates by monitoring traffic through the Blaze Private Core Network. When a DDoS attack is detected, traffic is automatically redirected to Lumen's Scrubbing Centres where malicious traffic is filtered out. Only clean traffic is passed back through to the customer network, allowing business operations to continue during an attack. The platform uses an Anycast architecture with 17 Regional and Super Scrubbing Centres distributed globally. Traffic is scrubbed as close to the ingestion point as possible to minimize latency. The service adds approximately 1 millisecond of latency during peacetime conditions for UK customers. BGP Flow spec technology is deployed across the entire Lumen backbone network, enabling rate limiting or blocking of attacks across all peering connections before they reach scrubbing centers. This provides additional protection against large-scale volumetric Layer 3 and Layer 4 attacks. Lumen collects 114 billion NetFlow records daily, capturing over 1.3 billion security events and monitoring for 5,000 known command and control servers. This intelligence enables proactive neutralization of botnet infrastructure involved in DDoS attacks.
