Sterling Identity Fingerprinting (now operating under the name First Advantage Biometrics) is a biometric fingerprint capture and submission service available to both individuals and businesses across the United States. The service operates through a network of approximately 700 kiosk locations (Identity Network Kiosks) distributed across all 50 states and Washington, DC, covering roughly 70% of the US population within a 30-minute drive. Locations are situated in retail business service centers, malls, and shipping locations. Fingerprint capture is performed electronically via modern touch screen kiosks equipped with fingerprint scanners and cameras. The system provides real-time feedback on print quality based on FBI-compliant standards, guiding users to capture acceptable prints before submission. Trained technicians are available on-site to assist with the process. Once captured, fingerprint data is encrypted and transmitted to the FBI according to government standards for biometric data storage and transmission. FBI records are returned digitally, with 50% of records returned in 90 seconds or less and 90% returned in under 45 minutes. Only the appropriate authorized recipient can access the delivered records. The service is available without a prior appointment and is designed for both individual background check needs and organizational use cases such as employee or candidate fingerprinting.
