Niagara Networks Network Intelligence is an advanced traffic processing solution built on top of the Network Packet Broker (NPB) architecture, enabled by the Packetron acceleration module and the Open Visibility Platform (OVP). The solution extends standard NPB capabilities — which include traffic replication, aggregation, filtering, and load balancing — with intelligent traffic processing designed to improve the efficiency of security and network monitoring tools. Core to the platform is Packetron, a packet acceleration module that integrates with network packet brokers to provide enhanced traffic processing performance. An external variant, ePacketron, is also available as a standalone appliance. The Open Visibility Platform (OVP) component provides a high-performance, open environment for hosting virtualized third-party applications alongside the visibility layer, enabling seamless integration of external security and network tools. The product addresses four identified trends creating a processing gap in modern networks: increased network complexity, increased user demand and bandwidth, increased volume of network tools, and increased tool sophistication and operational demands. The solution targets both NetOps and SecOps teams, providing visibility across physical and virtual network infrastructures. Supporting hardware components include Network TAPs, bypass switches (multi-purpose hybrid bypass and passive bypass), and Network Packet Brokers. Visibility orchestration is provided through a single-pane-of-glass management interface called NVC. Additional capabilities include SSL/TLS decryption, load balancing, capacity expansion, mobile subscriber-aware visibility, and hybrid cloud observability.
