HacWare Password Validator is a free jQuery form validation extension that prevents website users from creating accounts using commonly compromised passwords. The extension validates passwords against two curated lists of hacked passwords — a top 5,000 list (checkHackedPass5K.js) and a top 100,000 list (checkHackedPass.js) — sourced from a dataset released by the UK's National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) in collaboration with the Have I Been Pwned (HIBP) project. The extension works by extending the existing jQuery Validate plugin, adding a custom rule (CheckPasswordBanned) that can be applied to password fields in any HTML form.
