SpeQtral

SpeQtral is a Singapore-based quantum communications company that develops and deploys Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) solutions for securing communications infrastructure against quantum computing threats.

The company offers an integrated approach to quantum-safe communications through two primary delivery mechanisms:

• Fibre QKD: Terrestrial, fibre-based QKD deployments targeting metropolitan communication networks, implemented in partnership with telecommunications providers.
• Satellite QKD: Space-based QKD using satellites that generate and transmit entanglement-based symmetric encryption keys to secure communications over long distances.

SpeQtral's product portfolio includes:

• SpooQies: Quantum hardware components (entangled photon sources)
• SQUINT: A quantum communications product
• Backend Quantum Unit (BQU): A backend hardware unit supporting QKD infrastructure

The company's roadmap progresses from metropolitan terrestrial QKD networks (2024) to satellite-based global quantum key delivery (2025) and ultimately a "Global Quantum Fabric" integrating satellite and terrestrial networks with software systems (2026).

SpeQtral addresses the "harvest now, decrypt later" threat model, where adversaries intercept and store encrypted data today in anticipation of future quantum decryption capabilities. Target sectors include government, financial institutions, healthcare, and critical communications infrastructure.

The company was spun out of research at the Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) in Singapore and has demonstrated entangled photon generation in orbit via the SpooQy-1 CubeSat in 2019. Partners and collaborators include Toshiba Digital Solutions Corporation and ST Engineering.
