Boss of the SOC (BOTS) Dataset Version 2 vs Circadence Security Immersion Workshops: Side-by-Side Comparison (2026)

Short answer

Security teams building Splunk expertise or running tabletop exercises need Boss of the SOC (BOTS) Dataset Version 2 because it ships pre-indexed and attack-ready, cutting the setup friction that kills most lab projects. The full 16.4GB dataset includes 2,000+ real-world security events across multiple attack chains, giving analysts something closer to production noise than sanitized tutorials. Skip this if your team runs primarily non-Splunk SIEM tooling or if you need guided walkthroughs; BOTS assumes you can hunt without handholding. Security leaders running internal awareness programs or product evaluation cycles will get the most from Circadence Security Immersion Workshops because gamification actually drives retention where lecture-based training fails, and the half-day format fits into packed calendars without requiring weeks of curriculum design. The tool supports up to 100 participants per session with both virtual and in-person delivery, making it practical for SMBs pushing 500+ headcount through annual training. Skip this if your team needs asynchronous, self-paced learning or certification tracking tied to compliance audits; Circadence is built around facilitated events, not on-demand modules.
