Passwordless MFA PAM module for Red Hat SSH/SFTP authentication
Red Hat TraitWare PAM Module is a pluggable authentication module that provides passwordless multi-factor authentication for Red Hat servers and workstations. The module integrates with SSH, SFTP, and other PAM-aware services to enable phishing-resistant authentication. The solution uses two authentication methods: TraitWare QR and PreAuth. For QR login, users SSH to the server and scan a displayed QR code with the TraitWare mobile app after authenticating to the app. For push login, PreAuth requires users to open and authenticate their TraitWare app before receiving a push notification. The module can secure various endpoints and services including login, GDM, KDM, XDM, SSH, SCP, SFTP, FTP, email clients, and any PAM-aware services. The pam_traitware.9.so module communicates with the TraitWare Authentication Console server and the user's mobile app. The TraitWare Authentication Console provides OAuth authentication and allows administrators to add users, control access, and register user devices. The TraitWare mobile app provides a user token combined with biometric verification and dynamic QR scanning. Additional authentication factors may include one-time codes and user location when activated.
