Protecto
AI-focused PII/PHI detection, masking & tokenization platform.

Protecto Description
Protecto is a data privacy and security platform designed for AI applications. It provides PII and PHI detection, masking, and tokenization capabilities to protect sensitive data in both structured and unstructured formats. PII/PHI Detection: Protecto uses AI/LLM-based Named Entity Recognition (NER), algorithmic, regex, and heuristic methods to identify sensitive data. It supports custom pattern identification, custom models, custom filter/denied keyword lists, and toxic content safety filters. Masking and Tokenization: Tokenization uses an entropy-based approach, producing pattern-less tokens that are designed to limit the impact of token leakage. Masking options include length-preserving, type-restrictive, format-preserving, consistent tokens, pseudonymization, and anonymization. A vault-less option is available in addition to a standard PII/PHI vault, with granular access control and policy-based masking. AI and Unstructured Data Support: The platform can parse PDFs and other text formats, preserves context relationships between data entities (e.g., full name vs. first name), and applies anonymization with consistent tokens to maintain AI model accuracy. Deployment and Integration: Protecto is available as SaaS or for on-premises/private cloud deployment, including air-gapped environments. It offers synchronous, asynchronous, and bulk APIs. The architecture supports auto-scaling for processing large datasets or running on edge devices. Enterprise Features: Includes multi-tenancy with isolated storage per tenant, data residency controls, audit and reporting, data retention for compliance, and support for HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA, PCI DSS, and SOC 2 compliance frameworks.
