BankVault MasterKey Passwordless Authentication Connector for Moodle is a SaaS-based authentication plugin that enables passwordless login for Moodle LMS environments. It is installed via the Moodle Marketplace and configured using an API key generated through a BankVault account. The connector leverages the user's mobile phone as an authentication mechanism without requiring any user-side software installation or configuration. On mobile devices, users are prompted and logged in directly. On workstations, users scan a QR code with their phone camera to authenticate. The underlying protocol is described as a Decentralized Web Protocol that combines three security secrets — a temporary secret from the webserver, a semi-persistent secret from the user's mobile device, and a permanent secret from the MasterKey infrastructure — to encode and encrypt login credentials without transmitting the secrets themselves.
