Actifile Healthcare Data Security Solution is a data security platform designed for small- to medium-sized healthcare organizations to help them locate, assess, and protect electronic Protected Health Information (ePHI) stored outside of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems. The platform operates in four stages: discovering ePHI across endpoints and cloud storage, identifying devices where ePHI should not reside, quantifying the financial risk associated with discovered ePHI, and applying file-level encryption to protect sensitive data. Unlike disk-level encryption, the solution performs file-level encryption that also covers cloud applications such as Microsoft 365, including email text and attachments. Encryption and decryption are designed to be transparent to end users, minimizing disruption to staff workflows. The solution is positioned to assist organizations in meeting HIPAA technical safeguard requirements under CFR Section 164.312, which mandates mechanisms to encrypt and decrypt ePHI. It provides continuous monitoring to alert on new flows of sensitive data and enables organizations to demonstrate compliance controls to auditors. Target users include small hospitals, ambulatory care centers, rehabilitation centers, long-term care facilities, and hospice care providers. The platform is also offered through Managed Service Providers (MSPs).
