Fencer

Fencer is a security platform designed specifically for early-stage startups and small engineering teams that lack dedicated security personnel. The platform aims to integrate into existing development workflows, reduce alert noise, and guide teams toward incremental security improvements without disrupting product development velocity.

The core problem Fencer addresses is the mismatch between enterprise security expectations and the reality of startup resource constraints. As startups move upmarket, they face pressure to meet enterprise security requirements and compliance attestations — such as SOC 2 — before they have the budget or headcount to support a dedicated security function.

Fencer positions itself as an alternative to managing multiple point solutions and noisy scanners, consolidating security guidance into a format accessible to non-security engineers.

Fencer's stated approach is to make security a routine part of day-to-day development work rather than a separate, standalone initiative. The platform is built to reduce friction in achieving baseline security posture, helping startups earn customer trust and satisfy enterprise buyer requirements during sales processes.

The company was co-founded by Vladik Rikhter and Tim Olshansky, both of whom previously built and scaled B2B SaaS companies, including Zenput (acquired by Crunchtime). Fencer is an early-stage company currently hiring.
