Varist

Varist develops anti-malware technology focused on behavioral and heuristic analysis for detecting unknown malware threats. The company provides real-time sandboxing and file analysis capabilities designed to operate at scale while maintaining data privacy.

Their technology emphasizes on-premises analysis rather than cloud-based third-party services, allowing organizations to conduct threat detection without transmitting sensitive content externally.

The company has roots in Iceland spanning over 30 years of malware protection experience. In 2012, Commtouch (later Cyren) acquired the anti-malware technology from its Icelandic founder, with development and operations continuing in Iceland.

In 2023, Varist was formed through a partnership between OK, an IT service provider in Iceland, and former Cyren employees who acquired the anti-malware business assets. The company is co-owned by employees with over 250 years of combined experience in anti-malware technology.

Varist's approach addresses the gap in detecting unknown malware by moving beyond traditional signature-based detection methods. Their sandbox technology enables behavioral analysis of files to identify threats that may not be recognized by conventional antivirus solutions. The company serves businesses requiring malware detection capabilities while prioritizing data privacy and local processing of potentially sensitive files.
