Kivera

Kivera is a cloud security company focused on preventive cloud security for organizations operating in regulated industries. The company's platform is designed to intercept and enforce security controls on cloud API calls before they are executed, preventing misconfigurations and policy violations at the point of action rather than detecting and remediating them after the fact.

Kivera's core approach centers on inline policy enforcement across cloud environments, allowing security and platform engineering teams to define guardrails that are automatically applied when developers interact with cloud services. This shifts security controls upstream in the development and deployment lifecycle, reducing the window of exposure that typically exists between misconfiguration and detection.

The platform targets organizations with complex compliance requirements, particularly those in highly regulated sectors where cloud misconfigurations carry significant risk. Kivera's philosophy emphasizes developer education over automated remediation, operating on the principle that making developers aware of policy violations in real time produces more durable security outcomes than silently correcting issues in the background.

Key technology principles guiding the platform include a narrow, deep focus on preventive cloud security, automation of repeatable security tasks, and a developer-centric feedback model. The company was co-founded by Vernon Jefferson (CTO) and Neil Brown (VP Operations), and is led by CEO Joe Lea.

Kivera has received backing from institutional investors and counts professionals from major technology and cloud organizations among its advisors and supporters.
