Private WiFi

Private WiFi is a VPN (Virtual Private Network) software product developed by Private Communications Corporation, founded in 2010 and headquartered in Sherman, Connecticut. The company was created to address security vulnerabilities associated with public WiFi hotspot usage.

The core product, Private WiFi, encrypts internet traffic for users connected to public WiFi networks, creating an encrypted tunnel between the user's device and the internet. This is intended to protect against packet-sniffing attacks, unauthorized data interception, hackers, and identity theft. The software is available for both desktop (Windows and macOS) and mobile devices (iOS).

Private WiFi targets individual consumers and business users who frequently connect to public WiFi hotspots in locations such as coffee shops, hotels, restaurants, and airports. The company positions its product as a paid, privacy-respecting alternative to free VPN services, which it notes often monetize user data through ad tracking.

The company offers U.S.-based customer support and maintains a subscription-based pricing model. Its leadership team includes executives with backgrounds in enterprise technology, AI/ML, and IT operations. The company has a VP of AI Product Innovation & Development, indicating active development of AI and machine learning capabilities within its product platform.

Private WiFi has received media coverage from outlets including CNN, The New York Times, PC Magazine, and Network World. Private Communications Corporation is a small, privately held company operating primarily in the consumer and SMB VPN market.
