Edgeless Systems

Edgeless Systems is a German cybersecurity company focused on confidential computing — a technology that enables data to remain encrypted even while being processed in the cloud. The company develops open-source software and commercial products designed to protect sensitive data in public cloud environments.

Their core product portfolio includes Constellation, an always-encrypted Kubernetes platform licensed under AGPL, which allows organizations to run Kubernetes clusters in a confidential computing environment. They also offer EGo and MarbleRun (licensed under MPL), which are tools for building and orchestrating confidential applications. Additionally, the company offers Privatemode AI, described as an end-to-end encrypted AI inference service.

Edgeless Systems targets enterprises and organizations that need to process sensitive data in public cloud infrastructure without exposing it to cloud providers or other third parties. Their approach relies on hardware-based trusted execution environments (TEEs) to provide cryptographic guarantees around data confidentiality during computation.

The company was co-founded by Felix Schuster (CEO) and Thomas Tendyck, both of whom studied at Ruhr University Bochum. Schuster conducted early confidential computing research at Microsoft Research in 2015. Edgeless Systems holds memberships and affiliations with organizations including the CNCF, Confidential Computing Consortium, and Bitkom.

They also organize OC3 (Open Confidential Computing Conference), an annual specialist conference for the confidential computing industry. Partners include Airbus, Nvidia, IBM, and the Schwarz Group.
