## What is Monarx Threat Shield?

Monarx Threat Shield is a security solution that provides real-time protection for web applications by operating directly within the application runtime environment. The product integrates into the PHP engine to monitor application behavior and context, detecting and blocking threats as they occur.

The solution functions as a server-based Web Application Firewall (WAF) with runtime application self-protection capabilities. It monitors code execution, behaviors, and flows during runtime to identify malicious activity such as SQL injections and cross-site scripting attacks.

Threat Shield blocks exploitation attempts for known CVE vulnerabilities through virtual patching before official patches are available. The system includes a curated ruleset designed to minimize false positives while protecting against major vulnerabilities.

The product provides protection against various attack vectors including brute force attacks, malicious file uploads, malicious plugin installations, lateral compromise attempts, redirect injections, SEO abuse, and form exploitation. It includes DOS protection at the server level and uses reputation-based IP blocking that leverages cloud data to automatically block known malicious IP addresses.

Additional capabilities include anti-bot protection that distinguishes between malicious bots and legitimate crawlers, admin user insertion prevention, and automatic blocking of SQL injection attempts targeting databases like MariaDB.
