Isovalent Load Balancer is a software-defined load balancing solution designed for modern infrastructure environments including Kubernetes, multi-cloud, and traditional data centers. Built on eBPF and Cilium technology, the load balancer operates across layers 3 to 7, utilizing XDP for ultra-low latency at L4 and Envoy for application-aware routing at L7. The solution provides protocol support for HTTP, WebSockets, SOCKS, TCP, SSL, and SSL_TCP. It implements multiple load balancing algorithms including Round-Robin, Least-Connections, Source IP Hash, and Weighted Round Robin. Session persistence is maintained through Cookie and Source-IP methods, with Maglev hashing for L4 consistent load distribution. Security features include TLS termination, SSL decrypt/re-encrypt capabilities, SNI-based routing, and client authentication through Basic authentication, JWT/OIDC tokens, and mutual TLS. The platform supports zero-trust principles with authorization controls. Network capabilities include BGP support with iBGP, eBGP, BFD, and dynamic routing based on health checks. VIP announcement is managed through BGP, L2 Announcement, and Floating IP. IPv6 support includes NAT46 and NAT64. Observability features provide metrics for CPU, memory, TCP, UDP, SSL, and HTTP performance. Logging options include access logs, Fluentd integration, and custom log rewrite capabilities. The solution includes L4 rate limiting and HTTP filtering based on URL, domain, wildcard, and source IP.
