## Executive summary

As of November 2026, CybersecTools tracks 167 companies that sell endpoint security solutions as their main business. Endpoint Detection and Response is part of that family. The largest groups are based in the United States, Israel and the United Kingdom. In the last 12 months they raised $1.5B across 19 funding rounds, 4 companies were acquired and 18 new companies started in the last two years.

From that field we chose seven solutions that record what happens on your laptops and servers, spot attacks and let you stop them. CrowdStrike suits large companies that want a light agent, deep investigation detail and a platform that grows into other areas. Microsoft Defender for Endpoint fits teams that already run Microsoft 365 and Sentinel, because it works best inside that stack. SentinelOne suits teams that want automatic response, including one-click rollback of files changed by ransomware.

The main choice is how much your own team will do. Some products lean on automatic response and suit lean teams, while others give analysts deep detail for hunting. Bitdefender and Arctic Wolf Aurora suit smaller teams that want simple rollout and management. Sophos EDR fits teams that already run Sophos Endpoint, because they can turn it on without a new agent. Tanium Threat Response adds hunting and response across many endpoints, often next to another EDR.

Ask each vendor how many false alerts you should expect, because tuning effort differs a lot.

## How we evaluated

We looked at 65 endpoint detection and response solutions from 52 companies, and the 7 on this page made the cut. We combined our judgment from years of leading enterprise security programs with market data from [Mandos](https://mandos.io/data/companies?utm_source=cybersectools.com&utm_medium=shortlist), our market intelligence platform, and with the vendor and review pages listed under Sources at the end of this page. For customer feedback, we left out paid reviews, reviews by vendor staff or partners, review campaigns and anything older than two years, so you get an accurate view of what customers say.

Four traits mattered most: detection that catches real attacks with few false alerts; response actions such as isolation and rollback; coverage of Windows, macOS and Linux; and links to your SIEM, identity and ticketing systems. We left out products that only manage devices or only stop ransomware. The order follows how widely each product is used by teams like yours. Company momentum shows how the vendor itself is growing, so a market leader can rank first with a lower score.

## What is Endpoint Detection and Response

Endpoint detection and response (EDR) products run a small agent on each laptop, desktop and server. The agent records activity, such as processes, files, network connections and logins, and sends it to a console. The product looks for signs of an attack, alerts your team and lets you act, for example by isolating a device or killing a process.

This matters because most attacks pass through an endpoint at some point, and antivirus alone misses many of them. EDR shows you what happened, how far it spread and what to fix. That record also helps with investigations and with proving to auditors and insurers that you can respond.

#### What customers say

Sentiment: 75% positive · 25% mixed · 0% negative (from first-hand public reviews and comments, 2026).
Most praised: Speed, Reports.
Most criticized: Price, Missing features.

CrowdStrike's endpoint agent is known for staying out of the way, so users don't notice it and rollouts across a whole company go quickly. Security staff value how much detail it records, which makes it easy to dig into what a process did during an investigation. The catch is cost, because it's expensive and many advanced features are sold as add-ons, so the bill grows as you turn more on. Some teams also say the first setup and policy tuning take training to get right.

#### Before you buy

Where it is strong:

- Light agent that users do not notice
- Detailed timelines for investigations
- Wide set of connections to network and identity products

Ask in the demo:

- List which modules your use cases need and price them all
- Ask how Charlotte AI is licensed
- Test detection tuning on your own environment

### 2. Microsoft Defender for Endpoint

- Founded: 1975
- Ownership: Public company (MSFT)
- Deployment: Cloud
- Company size: SMB, Mid-Market, Enterprise
- NIST CSF: Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond
- Pricing: Contact sales

#### Our take

Microsoft Defender for Endpoint covers Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android. It includes EDR, vulnerability management, device control and web filtering, and its automatic attack disruption can isolate devices to stop ransomware from spreading.

Devices onboard through Microsoft's own device management, and alerts flow into Defender XDR and Sentinel. Many companies already own it through Microsoft 365 E5 or Defender for Endpoint Plan 2 licenses.

It is on this list because many companies already own it, and automatic attack disruption can isolate devices before ransomware spreads. It fits teams of any size that run Intune, Defender XDR and Sentinel. If your SIEM or device management is not Microsoft, check how much of that value carries over.

#### Microsoft Defender for Endpoint main features

- Endpoint detection and response (EDR)

#### What customers say

Sentiment: 67% positive · 28% mixed · 5% negative (from first-hand public reviews and comments, 2025 to 2026).
Most praised: Integrations, Reports, Ease of use.
Most criticized: Missing features, Setup.

Defender for Endpoint makes the most sense for companies that already run on Microsoft, because it plugs into Microsoft 365, Intune and Entra and puts alerts for every device in one portal. Customers find it easy to roll out and manage day to day, but deeper setup is another story, since policies are spread across several Microsoft portals and complex setups take real expertise. Some also say the licensing costs a lot for what they get, and that support can be slow to grasp urgent problems.

#### Before you buy

Where it is strong:

- Built into Microsoft 365 and Sentinel
- Automatic isolation to stop ransomware spreading
- May come with licenses you already hold

Ask in the demo:

- Check which plan your Microsoft licenses include
- Test coverage on your Linux and Mac devices
- Ask who will own tuning across the different portals

### 3. SentinelOne Singularity Endpoint

Mountain View, United States · Founded 2013 · Public company · Momentum 73/100 (Mandos)

Certifications: SOC 2, ISO 27001, FedRAMP, PCI DSS, HIPAA, FIPS 140

**Best for:** Teams wanting automatic response and rollback

Product page: https://cybersectools.com/tools/sentinelone-singularity-endpoint

#### At a glance

- Vendor: SentinelOne
- Headquarters: Mountain View, United States
- Founded: 2013
- Ownership: Public company (S)
- Deployment: Cloud
- Company size: SMB, Mid-Market, Enterprise
- NIST CSF: Protect, Detect, Respond
- Starting price: From $179.99 per endpoint per year

#### Our take

SentinelOne Singularity Endpoint runs AI models on the device itself, so it can stop malware even when a laptop is offline. Its Storyline feature links related events into one attack story, and it can kill, quarantine, remediate and roll back changes with one click.

One agent covers Windows, macOS and Linux, and it also detects identity-based attacks. It connects to Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, Ping Identity, Splunk, ServiceNow, Netskope, Zscaler and Proofpoint, among others.

Its place comes from response it can run on its own, with AI on the device that works offline and rollback in one click. It suits teams of any size that are short on analysts and want the agent to act first. It also covers identity attacks and mobile devices, so decide whether you want those in scope now or later.

#### SentinelOne Singularity Endpoint main features

- On-device AI for autonomous malware prevention
- Behavioral and static AI models for ransomware detection
- Storyline technology for automatic event correlation
- Automated and one-click response with rollback
- Identity-based attack detection and protection

#### What customers say

Sentiment: 82% positive · 9% mixed · 9% negative (from first-hand public reviews and comments, 2026).
Most praised: Speed.
Most criticized: False positives, Interface.

SentinelOne's behavior-based agent stops ransomware and other malware on its own, and customers rate its one-click rollback highly because it restores encrypted files without rebuilding the machine. The console also records enough detail to trace what happened on a device without leaving it. The catch is tuning, because false positives can block legitimate apps and internal scripts, so teams spend time building exclusions, and several find the console hard to learn at first.

#### Before you buy

Where it is strong:

- One-click rollback of ransomware changes
- On-device AI that works offline
- Storyline links events into one attack story

Ask in the demo:

- Ask how long exclusion tuning usually takes
- Check the agent support schedule for your operating systems
- Ask which features each package includes

### 4. Bitdefender GravityZone EDR

**[Bitdefender](https://mandos.io/data/companies/bitdefender?utm_source=cybersectools.com&utm_medium=shortlist-md&utm_campaign=explore-in-mandos)**. EDR platform with automated cross-endpoint correlation and prevention-first approach

Bucharest, Romania · Founded 2001 · $7M raised · Momentum 48/100 (Mandos)

Certifications: SOC 2, ISO 27001, Common Criteria

**Best for:** Smaller teams wanting one light agent

Product page: https://cybersectools.com/tools/bitdefender-gravityzone-edr-cloud

#### At a glance

- Vendor: Bitdefender
- Headquarters: Bucharest, Romania
- Founded: 2001
- Deployment: Cloud
- Company size: SMB, Mid-Market, Enterprise
- NIST CSF: Protect, Detect, Respond
- Pricing: Contact sales

#### Our take

Bitdefender GravityZone EDR combines prevention and detection in one agent and console. It links related incidents across endpoints into one larger incident, which speeds up investigation, and it adds live and historical search for threat hunting.

Prevention features include exploit defense, fileless attack defense, tunable machine learning and cloud sandboxing, and the platform can also handle patching. Incidents can be forwarded to Splunk, IBM QRadar and Microsoft Sentinel.

It earns a place because prevention, detection and patching share one agent and one console, which means fewer products for a small team to run. It fits small and mid-sized companies first, though it scales to enterprises. Its SIEM links cover Splunk, QRadar and Sentinel, so check the fit if you use something else.

#### Bitdefender GravityZone EDR main features

- Risk management
- Patch management
- Exploit defense
- Fileless attack defense
- HyperDetect tunable AI
- Cloud sandboxing
- Cross-endpoint attack correlation
- Real-time attack visualization

#### Bitdefender GravityZone EDR main integrations

Splunk, IBM QRadar, Microsoft Sentinel

#### What customers say

Sentiment: 77% positive · 15% mixed · 8% negative (from first-hand public reviews and comments, 2024 to 2026).
Most praised: Setup, Ease of use, Speed.
Most criticized: Licensing, Price.

GravityZone wins praise for protection that works and for one cloud console that makes rolling out and managing policies across many devices simple. Views on the agent's weight are split, because many find it light while others see it take up memory over time or slow machines during full scans. The catch is the console's dense menus, which take a while to learn, and a price that grows because extra modules are sold as add-ons.

#### Before you buy

Where it is strong:

- Light agent that stays easy on endpoints
- Links related incidents across endpoints
- Prevention, EDR and patching in one console

Ask in the demo:

- Ask which add-ons your EDR use cases need
- Get a full quote including every add-on
- Test the console with the people who will run it

#### Our take

Tanium Threat Response lets your team question every endpoint in real time, investigate suspicious activity and act, for example by isolating a device or removing files. It supports hypothesis-driven hunting, MITRE ATT&CK mapping and remote forensics on online and offline endpoints.

It runs on the same Tanium agent used for asset inventory and patching. It connects to Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Microsoft Sentinel, Splunk, IBM QRadar and ServiceNow.

It is on this list for hunting and response across very large fleets, because it can question every endpoint in real time, online or offline. It often runs next to another EDR, which suits teams that want deeper hunting on top of what they have. If you do not already use Tanium for inventory or patching, weigh the cost of a new agent for this one job.

#### Tanium Threat Response main features

- Threat Navigator
- Threat detection
- Threat intelligence
- Forensic investigation
- Threat remediation
- Endpoint isolation
- Hypothesis-driven threat hunting
- MITRE ATT&CK mapping

#### Tanium Threat Response main integrations

- Starting price: Contact sales

#### Our take

Arctic Wolf Aurora Endpoint Security uses an AI engine to block threats before they run. It adds behavior-based detection, device and application control, threat hunting with MITRE ATT&CK mapping and playbook automation.

It sits inside Arctic Wolf's wider security operations platform, and managed tiers add round-the-clock monitoring by Arctic Wolf staff.

It earns its place for teams without their own analysts, because the managed tiers put people on watch around the clock on top of the endpoint product. It fits small and mid-sized companies that would rather buy help than hire. Ask what the product does on its own without a managed tier, since much of the offer rests on the service.

#### Arctic Wolf Aurora Endpoint Security main features

- Endpoint protection platform
- Next-generation antivirus
- Device control
- Application control
- Behavioral detection engine
- Threat hunting
- MITRE ATT&CK mapping
- Playbook automation

#### Arctic Wolf Aurora Endpoint Security main integrations

Active Directory, Okta, Ping Identity, Duo

#### What customers say

Customers say Aurora Endpoint Security installs quickly and detects threats accurately, while Arctic Wolf staff watch alerts around the clock and meet with teams to tune what gets blocked. That said, the newest agents don't support some older Windows Server versions, so shops still running them have to stay on older agents or upgrade the servers first.

#### Before you buy

Where it is strong:

- Prevention-first AI engine
- Managed tiers with round-the-clock monitoring
- Quick, simple onboarding

Ask in the demo:

- Check support for your oldest Windows server versions
- Ask what the managed tier adds and what it costs
- Review the console's investigation detail in a demo

### 7. Sophos EDR

**[Sophos](https://mandos.io/data/companies/sophos?utm_source=cybersectools.com&utm_medium=shortlist-md&utm_campaign=explore-in-mandos)**. Endpoint detection and response that finds and stops human-led attacks.

Abingdon, United Kingdom · Founded 1985 · $60M raised · Momentum 43/100 (Mandos)

Certifications: SOC 2, ISO 27001, ISO 27017, ISO 27018, PCI DSS, HIPAA

**Best for:** Teams already running Sophos Endpoint

Product page: https://cybersectools.com/tools/sophos-intercept-x

#### At a glance

- Vendor: Sophos
- Headquarters: Abingdon, United Kingdom

- Deployment: Hybrid
- Company size: SMB, Mid-Market, Enterprise
- NIST CSF: Protect, Detect, Respond
- Pricing: Contact sales

#### Our take

Sophos EDR finds and stops human-led attacks on endpoints and servers, whether they sit in the office, at home or in the cloud. It ranks detections with AI so you see the most urgent ones first, writes case summaries and explains suspicious commands. Detections map to MITRE ATT&CK, and it can respond on its own or let your analysts act by hand.

It comes as one agent that includes Sophos Endpoint, and it runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, including older platforms.

It belongs here for teams that already run Sophos Endpoint, because EDR turns on from the same console without a new agent. It fits teams of any size that want AI help ranking and summing up detections. You can also run it with Microsoft Defender as the protection agent, which helps if you are moving between the two.

#### Sophos EDR main features

- AI-prioritized detections
- AI case summaries for investigations
- AI search and AI command analysis
- Automated responses to attacks
- Hands-on analyst response actions
- Detections mapped to MITRE ATT&CK
- Real-time device insights
- Device exposure view

#### Sophos EDR main integrations

Microsoft Defender

#### What customers say

Sentiment: 53% positive · 22% mixed · 25% negative (from first-hand public reviews and comments, 2024 to 2026).
Most praised: Speed.
Most criticized: Speed, Support.

Sophos Intercept X stops malware early and puts device, web and app controls in the same agent, so teams can block USB drives and risky sites without a second product. The catch is speed on some PCs, because the file scanner can push CPU use high, and the fixes have come from updates and tuning. Support also gets mixed marks, with some customers finding replies slow.

#### Before you buy

Where it is strong:

- AI ranks the most urgent detections first
- Turns on from the Sophos console with no new agent
- Covers Windows, macOS, Linux and older platforms

Ask in the demo:

- Test CPU and memory use during scans and builds
- Ask which response actions run on their own
- Ask how fast support answers urgent cases

## CISO checklist for selecting an Endpoint Detection and Response product

Work through these steps in order to go from endpoint risk to a contract you can defend.

1. **Count your endpoints by operating system.** Coverage and price depend on Windows, macOS and Linux numbers.
2. **Decide who will review alerts every day.** EDR needs someone watching, or a managed service.
3. **Check which EDR your current licenses already include.** You may already own a capable product.
4. **Run a pilot on your busiest servers and laptops.** Agent performance varies by workload.
5. **Count false alerts during the pilot.** Tuning effort is a common complaint in this category.
6. **Test isolation and rollback on a lab machine.** Response actions matter most during a real attack.
7. **Confirm how alerts reach your SIEM and ticketing.** Alerts only help if the right people see them.
8. **Check support for your oldest operating systems.** Older servers are often left uncovered.
9. **List every module or add-on your use cases need.** Advanced features are often sold separately.
10. **Price the full deployment for three years.** Renewals and add-ons often change the total.

## Conclusion

Start with your team and your stack. If you run Microsoft 365, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint may already be in your license. If you want a light agent with deep investigation detail, look at CrowdStrike. If automatic response and rollback matter most, SentinelOne is built for that.

Bitdefender and Arctic Wolf Aurora suit smaller teams that want simple rollout, and Arctic Wolf adds staff who help run it. Sophos EDR fits teams that already run Sophos Endpoint, since it turns on without a new agent. Tanium Threat Response fits companies that want fast hunting across very large fleets, often next to another EDR.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### What is the difference between EDR and antivirus?

Antivirus blocks known malware. EDR records everything that happens on a device, spots suspicious behavior and lets your team investigate and respond. Most products here include both.

### What is the difference between EDR and XDR?

EDR covers endpoints. XDR adds data from other sources, such as email, identity, network and cloud, so you can follow an attack across them. Several EDR products here grow into XDR with extra modules.

### Do I need an analyst team to run EDR?

Not always. Products with strong automatic response suit lean teams, and some vendors offer managed monitoring. Without someone reviewing alerts, though, much of EDR's value is lost.

### Will an EDR agent slow down my devices?

Modern agents are light, but it varies by product and workload. Test the agent on your busiest servers and on the laptops your staff use most before you roll it out.

### Can EDR undo a ransomware attack?

Some products can roll back files changed by ransomware, for example SentinelOne. Rollback depends on local snapshots, so ask how far back it reaches and what it covers.

### Is Microsoft Defender for Endpoint enough?

For many Microsoft-heavy companies it is, especially if their licenses already include it. Teams with many Linux or Mac devices, or with very strict detection needs, often compare it with a specialist EDR.
