## Executive summary

As of November 2026, CybersecTools tracks 99 companies that sell cloud security solutions as their main business. Container Security is part of that family. The largest groups are based in the United States, Israel and Australia. In the last 12 months they raised $1.1B across 19 funding rounds and 13 new companies started in the last two years.

From that field we chose seven solutions that secure your containers and Kubernetes clusters from build to runtime. Sysdig suits teams that want deep runtime detection built on Falco rules. Aqua fits teams that want image scanning, sandbox testing and runtime protection in one platform. Snyk Container suits developer teams that want image scanning with base image fixes inside their pipelines.

The main choice is where you want protection to start. Some products focus on scanning images before they ship. Others watch running containers and block attacks as they happen. Most teams end up needing both.

Ask how each product ranks findings. Containers carry many known flaws, and you only want to fix the ones that run and can be reached.

## How we evaluated

We looked at 76 container security solutions from 32 companies, and the 7 on this page made the cut. We combined our judgment from years of leading enterprise security programs with market data from [Mandos](https://mandos.io/data/companies?utm_source=cybersectools.com&utm_medium=shortlist), our market intelligence platform, and with the vendor and review pages listed under Sources at the end of this page. For customer feedback, we left out paid reviews, reviews by vendor staff or partners, review campaigns and anything older than two years, so you get an accurate view of what customers say.

Four traits mattered most: image scanning in the pipeline and in registries; runtime protection for running containers; Kubernetes posture and admission control; and ranking flaws by what actually runs. We left out hardened base image catalogs, ingress controllers, service meshes and Kubernetes management platforms, which solve different problems. The order follows how widely each product is used by teams like yours. Company momentum shows how the vendor itself is growing, so a market leader can rank first with a lower score.

## What is Container Security

Container security protects the containers your apps run in and the Kubernetes clusters that manage them. It scans container images for known flaws, malware, secrets and bad settings before they ship. It checks your clusters against benchmarks such as CIS. In production, it watches running containers and blocks unusual behavior, such as a shell opening in a web server.

For you, this matters because one image can run hundreds of times across your clusters. A flaw in a base image spreads to every app built on it. Attackers who break into one container try to move to the next one or to the host. Container security catches these problems early and stops attacks that get through.

#### Our take

Sysdig captures system calls and metadata from running containers and uses Falco detection rules to spot threats across containers, servers, Kubernetes and serverless. It ranks flaws by whether the package is in use, exploitable and exposed, and its Kubernetes posture checks can open a pull request with the fix in the infrastructure-as-code file. It connects to Splunk, Elasticsearch, Okta, GitHub, GitLab, Jira, Jenkins and Sentinel.

It earns its place on the runtime side, because it watches what containers actually do and ranks flaws by what is in use, which cuts your fix list to what can be reached. It is a cloud service, and its size fit runs from SMB to enterprise. If your main gap is scanning before deployment, check how much of it you would use, since its depth is in running clusters.

## CISO checklist for selecting a Container Security product

Work through these steps in order to go from unchecked containers to a contract you can defend.

1. **List your registries, CI/CD systems and clusters.** Each product supports a different set, and gaps leave images unchecked.
2. **Decide whether you need scanning, runtime protection or both.** Scanning finds flaws early, while runtime protection stops live attacks.
3. **Scan your largest images during a trial.** Real images show how fast scans run and how many findings appear.
4. **Compare how each product ranks findings.** You want to fix flaws that run and can be reached, not every known flaw.
5. **Test admission control in one cluster.** Blocking rules that are too strict can stop real deployments.
6. **Count runtime alerts after a week.** Noisy alerts cost your team time every day.
7. **Check where alerts and tickets go.** Findings only get fixed when they reach the right team.
8. **Ask whether it uses agents, and where.** Agents add protection but also rollout work on every node.
9. **Ask how pricing scales.** Prices often grow with nodes, images or developers.
10. **Ask for references with clusters like yours.** Setup effort differs a lot between small and large estates.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### What is the difference between image scanning and runtime protection?

Image scanning finds known flaws and bad settings before a container runs. Runtime protection watches containers while they run and stops unusual behavior. Scanning cuts risk early, and runtime protection catches what scanning cannot.

### What is admission control?

Admission control checks each container before Kubernetes starts it. It can block images with critical flaws or containers that ask for too much access. It is a simple way to enforce policy in every cluster.

### Are free open source scanners enough?

Open source scanners find known flaws well. Paid products add ranking, policy, runtime protection, reporting and support. Many teams start with an open source scanner and add a paid product as they grow.

### Why do container scans find so many flaws?

Base images and open source packages carry many known flaws, and most never run or cannot be reached. Good products rank findings by what actually runs, so you fix fewer, more important issues.

### Do I need container security if I use a cloud security platform?

Many cloud security platforms include container scanning. A dedicated container product often goes deeper on runtime protection and Kubernetes policy. Compare what your cloud platform already covers before you buy.

### Why do some products have no customer section?

We only summarize customer views when we find enough first-hand reviews from more than one place. If a product has too few public reviews, ask that vendor for references.
