## Executive summary

As of November 2026, CybersecTools tracks 303 companies that sell application security solutions as their main business. The largest groups are based in the United States, Israel and the United Kingdom. In the last 12 months they raised $1.3B across 53 funding rounds, 14 companies were acquired and 40 new companies started in the last two years.

From that field we chose seven solutions that find and fix flaws in your own code and the open-source packages it uses. Snyk leads for teams that want security checks inside the editor and pull requests, where developers already work. Veracode and Checkmarx One suit teams that want one platform for static, dynamic and open-source scanning with central policy. Black Duck Polaris fits teams whose biggest risk sits in open-source parts and license rules.

The choice in this category is how much noise your developers will accept. Scanners live or die by whether their findings get fixed, so the way a product ranks and explains each flaw matters more than how many it finds. Aikido bundles many scanners for smaller teams, and OX ranks findings from the scanners you already run.

Web firewalls that block attacks on live apps are a different job, so they have their own list.

## How we evaluated

We looked at 900 application security solutions from 367 companies, and the 7 on this page made the cut. We combined our judgment from years of leading enterprise security programs with market data from [Mandos](https://mandos.io/data/companies?utm_source=cybersectools.com&utm_medium=shortlist), our market intelligence platform, and with the vendor and review pages listed under Sources at the end of this page. For customer feedback, we left out paid reviews, reviews by vendor staff or partners, review campaigns and anything older than two years, so you get an accurate view of what customers say.

Four traits mattered most: coverage of your own code and open-source packages, results inside the editor, pull request and build pipeline, and how well findings are ranked so developers are not buried in noise. We left out training-only products and single-language scanners. The order follows how widely each product is used by teams like yours. Company momentum shows how the vendor itself is growing, so a market leader can rank first with a lower score.

## What is Application Security

Application security covers the products that find and fix weak spots in the software your company builds and runs. On the code side, static testing (SAST) reads source code for flaws. Software composition analysis (SCA) checks open-source packages for known holes and license problems. Dynamic testing (DAST) attacks a running app the way an outsider would. On the runtime side, a web application firewall (WAF) sits in front of live apps and APIs and blocks attacks.

For you, this matters because most breaches of web apps start with a flaw in code or a package that nobody caught. Finding it in a pull request costs minutes. Finding it after an attack costs far more.

- Headquarters: Boston, United States
- Founded: 2015
- Deployment: Cloud
- Company size: Startup, SMB, Mid-Market, Enterprise
- NIST CSF: Identify, Protect
- Starting price: From $25 per month

#### Our take

Snyk AI Security Platform runs scanning engines for open-source packages (SCA), your own code (SAST), secrets, containers, infrastructure as code and running apps (DAST). Snyk Agent Fix suggests fixes in the IDE and in pull requests. Reachability analysis and risk scores rank what to fix first, and it keeps an inventory of code, dependencies and AI models.

It works with AI coding assistants such as Claude, Cursor, Copilot, Codex and Windsurf.

Snyk leads this list because it covers the most engines from the developer's side, and it now governs code written by AI coding agents too, which matters as more of your code comes from them. It fits companies from startups to large enterprises. Ask how reachability is used to cut the queue on your largest repositories, because that sets how much triage lands on your developers.

#### Snyk AI Security Platform main features

- Agentic Development Security governing agent tools, behavior and generated code

Most praised: Integrations, Ease of use.
Most criticized: False positives, Integrations.

Snyk works where developers already are, in the code editor, pull requests and build pipeline, so problems show up and get fixed before code ships. Customers like its fix suggestions, including AI-written ones that developers can accept or tweak, which takes load off the team. The catch is noise, because it flags low-risk or unreachable issues that someone has to check by hand, and that grows on large projects.

#### Before you buy

Where it is strong:

- Fix suggestions in the IDE and in pull requests
- Reachability analysis to rank what to fix first
- Inventory of code, dependencies and AI models

Ask in the demo:

- Run it on one of your larger repositories and count how many findings are worth fixing
- Check whether the reports and dashboards give your security team what it needs
- Get a price for your full developer count, since customers mention cost at scale

- NIST CSF: Govern, Protect
- Pricing: Contact sales

#### Our take

Veracode Application Risk Management Platform combines static analysis, dynamic testing of web apps and APIs, open-source scanning with license risk, and container and infrastructure-as-code scanning. Risk Manager ranks findings and names the owner and root cause of each issue. Veracode Fix generates reference patches, and Package Firewall blocks risky or malicious packages before they reach your pipelines.

It connects to GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Jira, ServiceNow, Wiz and CrowdStrike.

Veracode earns its place as a platform for central policy, because one owner can set rules across code, running apps and packages and see who must fix what. That suits a security team that governs many development groups. If your developers want speed above all, test how its scans fit your release rhythm before you roll it out wide.

#### Veracode Application Risk Management Platform main features

- Application security posture management with vulnerability prioritization, ownership and root cause identification
- AI-powered remediation with generated reference patches
- Static application security testing (SAST)
- Dynamic application security testing (DAST) for web apps and APIs

Sentiment: 60% positive · 27% mixed · 13% negative (from first-hand public reviews and comments, 2024 to 2026).
Most praised: Integrations, Reports.
Most criticized: Missing features, Integrations.

Veracode's strength is that it plugs into code repositories and build pipelines, so source code, running web apps and open-source libraries all get scanned without much manual effort. Customers like that the reports point developers to what to fix, though on large projects scans can run slow. Some also question its depth, because they found serious flaws it did not catch.

#### Before you buy

Where it is strong:

- Risk Manager names the owner and root cause of each issue
- Package Firewall blocks risky packages before they reach pipelines
- Static, dynamic and open-source scanning in one platform

Ask in the demo:

- Test it on code in your own languages, especially C and C++ if you use them
- Ask how licensing works per application and how it grows with your portfolio
- Compare its findings with a recent pen test or audit of one of your apps

### 3. Checkmarx One Application Security Platform

**[Checkmarx](https://mandos.io/data/companies/checkmarx?utm_source=cybersectools.com&utm_medium=shortlist-md&utm_campaign=explore-in-mandos)**. Unified AppSec platform with SAST, SCA, DAST, IaC, ASPM & AI remediation

Paramus, United States · Founded 2006 · $92M raised · Momentum 51/100 (Mandos)

- Vendor: Checkmarx
- Headquarters: Paramus, United States
- Founded: 2006
- Deployment: Cloud
- Company size: SMB, Mid-Market, Enterprise
- NIST CSF: Identify, Protect
- Starting price: Contact sales

#### Our take

Checkmarx One Application Security Platform brings SAST, SCA, DAST, infrastructure-as-code scanning, API testing, container scanning and secrets detection into one platform. Its posture management (ASPM) links findings across engines to rank the ones that can be exploited. Checkmarx One Assist gives fix suggestions in the IDE.

It connects to GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps, Bitbucket, Jenkins, TeamCity, Jira and Slack.

It is on the list because it runs seven kinds of testing in one place and links their findings, so you rank exploitable risk once instead of per scanner. It fits a mid-size or large engineering group with many pipelines to cover. Pilot it on your largest code base first, because scan time on that repository decides whether developers keep it in every build.

#### Checkmarx One Application Security Platform main features

- Static Application Security Testing (SAST)
- Software Composition Analysis (SCA)
- Dynamic Application Security Testing (DAST)
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) security scanning
- Application Security Posture Management (ASPM)
- API security testing
- Container security scanning
- Secrets detection

#### Checkmarx One Application Security Platform main integrations

Visual Studio Code, JetBrains, Eclipse, Jira, Slack, Microsoft Teams, GitHub Issues, GitLab, Azure DevOps, Bitbucket, Maven, Jenkins, Bamboo, TeamCity, GitHub Actions, Amazon ECR, JFrog Artifactory, Docker Hub, GitHub Container Registry, Red Hat Quay, Azure Container Registry, Sysdig

#### What customers say

Sentiment: 82% positive · 18% mixed · 0% negative (from first-hand public reviews and comments, 2025 to 2026).
Most praised: Integrations, Reports.
Most criticized: False positives, Speed.

Checkmarx One catches code flaws at each commit, before they ship, and teams like having code and open-source checks in one place that plugs into their build pipelines. Developers get clear findings with fix guidance, so they can act on them quickly. That said, false positives still need checking by hand, which adds triage time, and full scans on large code bases are slow enough to hold up builds.

#### Before you buy

Where it is strong:

- Links findings across engines to rank exploitable issues
- Connects to GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps and Bitbucket
- Fix suggestions in the IDE through Checkmarx One Assist

Ask in the demo:

- Time a full scan of your largest project during the trial
- Measure how many findings need manual review before you trust the results
- Confirm the build server and ticketing links your team uses

### 4. Black Duck Polaris Platform

**[Black Duck Software, Inc.](https://mandos.io/data/companies/black-duck-software-inc?utm_source=cybersectools.com&utm_medium=shortlist-md&utm_campaign=explore-in-mandos)**. Cloud platform for automated AST with SAST, SCA, and DAST capabilities

Burlington, United States · Founded 2002 · $78M raised · Momentum 64/100 (Mandos)

Certifications: ISO 27001

**Best for:** Teams managing open-source and license risk

Product page: https://cybersectools.com/tools/black-duck-polaris-platform

#### At a glance

- Vendor: Black Duck Software, Inc.
- Headquarters: Burlington, United States
- Founded: 2002
- Deployment: Cloud
- Company size: SMB, Mid-Market, Enterprise
- NIST CSF: Govern, Identify, Protect
- Pricing: Contact sales

#### Our take

Black Duck Polaris Platform is a cloud platform with three testing engines. Polaris fAST Static covers code, infrastructure as code and secrets. Polaris fAST SCA covers open-source and third-party risk, and Polaris fAST Dynamic tests web and API apps. It can start scans on application, project or development events, and it onboards many code repositories at once.

It connects to GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps, Bitbucket, Jira, ServiceNow, Jenkins and TeamCity.

Black Duck Polaris belongs here for companies whose biggest risk sits in third-party and open-source code, where license rules matter as much as vulnerabilities. That suits firms that ship software to others or must answer for the licenses in their code. Plan setup time and skilled people for the first rollout, because event-based scans across many repositories need care to set up.

#### Black Duck Polaris Platform main features

- Static application security testing (SAST)
- Software composition analysis (SCA)
- Dynamic application security testing (DAST)
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) scanning
- Secrets detection
- Automated security testing throughout SDLC
- Multi-repository onboarding
- Event-based scan automation

#### Black Duck Polaris Platform main integrations

GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps, Bitbucket, Jira, ServiceNow, Azure Boards, GitHub Issues, GitLab Issues, Jenkins, Bamboo, CloudBees, TeamCity, Travis CI, Checkmarx, Snyk, Veracode, Fortify, Semgrep, JFrog Xray, Tenable, HCL AppScan on Cloud, Secure Code Warrior, IriusRisk, Apache Maven

#### What customers say

Polaris shows which open-source parts sit in your code and what license and security risk each one brings, and its findings are clear enough that people can see what is going on and how to fix it. The catch is accuracy and effort, because some vulnerability results come back wrong or incomplete, so teams end up checking them by hand, and setup and configuration take real time and know-how.

#### Before you buy

Where it is strong:

- Separate engines for code, open-source parts and running apps
- Scans start on application, project or development events
- Onboards many code repositories at once

Ask in the demo:

- Ask what setup help is included, since customers found setup complex
- Have a non-developer read a sample report to test how clear it is
- Check the license-risk reports against your legal team's rules

### 5. SonarSource SonarQube Cloud

**[SonarSource](https://mandos.io/data/companies/sonarsource?utm_source=cybersectools.com&utm_medium=shortlist-md&utm_campaign=explore-in-mandos)**. Cloud-based SAST platform for code quality and security analysis

Geneva, Switzerland · Founded 2008 · $457M raised · Momentum 67/100 (Mandos)

Certifications: SOC 2, ISO 27001

**Best for:** Teams wanting a code quality gate in CI

Product page: https://cybersectools.com/tools/sonarsource-sonarqube-cloud

#### At a glance

- Vendor: SonarSource
- Headquarters: Geneva, Switzerland
- Founded: 2008
- Deployment: Cloud
- Company size: Startup, SMB, Mid-Market, Enterprise
- NIST CSF: Protect
- Starting price: From $34 per analysis of up to 100k lines of code (LOC) per month

#### Our take

SonarQube Cloud is a SaaS code scanner for quality and security flaws, secrets and dependency risk. Its Quality Gate can fail a pipeline when code does not meet your standards, so weak code never merges. It decorates pull requests, analyzes new repositories automatically, measures test coverage and offers AI CodeFix in the IDE.

It connects to GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket Cloud and Azure DevOps, and to Visual Studio Code and IntelliJ through SonarQube for IDE.

SonarQube Cloud earns a spot because one gate covers both code quality and security, which gives developers a single rule to meet before merge. It fits teams of any size, including startups. Treat it as your first gate rather than your only security scanner, and decide what deeper testing you add on top.

#### SonarSource SonarQube Cloud main features

- Automatic project setup and analysis
- Quality Gate for pipelines
- Static application security testing (SAST)
- Secrets detection
- Security standards compliance checks
- Test coverage tracking
- Pull request decoration and branch analysis
- AI CodeFix suggestions

#### SonarSource SonarQube Cloud main integrations

GitHub, Visual Studio Code, IntelliJ, Cursor, Windsurf, Bitbucket Cloud, Azure DevOps, GitLab

#### What customers say

Sentiment: 60% positive · 40% mixed · 0% negative (from first-hand public reviews and comments, 2025 to 2026).
Most praised: Integrations, Reports.
Most criticized: Missing features, False positives.

SonarQube Cloud sits in the build pipeline as a quality gate, so weak code gets blocked before it merges and bugs and code smells show up while they're still cheap to fix. Customers find it simple to plug into existing pipelines, but the rules need ongoing tuning because false positives send developers off to check findings by hand. Its security checks also run shallow, which means it can miss vulnerabilities that deeper code security scanners catch.

#### Before you buy

Where it is strong:

- Quality Gate fails pipelines when code misses your standards
- Pull request decoration and automatic analysis of new repositories
- Test coverage measurement alongside security findings

Ask in the demo:

- Plan time for rule tuning, since reviewers say it needs steady work
- Pair it with a dynamic or runtime product, since it scans code only
- Check which of your languages and frameworks it analyzes without setup

### 6. Aikido All in one Security platform

**[Aikido Security](https://mandos.io/data/companies/aikido-security?utm_source=cybersectools.com&utm_medium=shortlist-md&utm_campaign=explore-in-mandos)**. All-in-one security platform covering code, cloud, and runtime protection

Ghent, Belgium · Founded 2022 · $85M raised · Momentum 86/100 (Mandos)

Certifications: SOC 2, ISO 27001

**Best for:** Smaller teams that want code, open-source and cloud checks in one place

Product page: https://cybersectools.com/tools/aikido-all-in-one-security-platform

#### At a glance

- Vendor: Aikido Security
- Headquarters: Ghent, Belgium
- Founded: 2022
- Deployment: Cloud
- Company size: SMB, Mid-Market, Enterprise
- NIST CSF: Govern, Protect
- Pricing: Contact sales

#### Our take

Aikido puts static code scanning, open-source package checks, secrets detection, infrastructure as code scanning and license risk in one platform, and adds dynamic testing, API fuzzing and cloud posture checks on top. It scans inside repositories, build pipelines and the editor, and AI can suggest fixes for the flaws it finds.

It earns its place because one product covers most of what a smaller team would otherwise buy as four or five scanners, which keeps cost and upkeep down. That breadth also means each scanner may go less deep than a specialist, so test it on your main codebase and check how it ranks findings before you replace anything.

#### Aikido All in one Security platform main features

- Static Application Security Testing (SAST)
- Software Composition Analysis (SCA)
- Secrets Detection
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Scanning
- Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM)
- Container and Kubernetes Runtime Scanning
- Agentless Virtual Machine Scanning
- Dynamic Application Security Testing (DAST)

#### Aikido All in one Security platform main integrations

Azure DevOps

#### What customers say

Sentiment: 94% positive · 6% mixed · 0% negative (from first-hand public reviews and comments, 2025 to 2026).
Most praised: Setup, Integrations, Ease of use.
Most criticized: Missing features.

Aikido puts code, dependency, secret, container and cloud findings in one place, and customers say it cuts out most of the noise so developers only see what matters. Setup takes minutes and support answers fast, so teams get going right away. The catch is that the AI fixes and triage sometimes miss context, which means someone still has to check them before acting. Paid plans also feel costly for solo developers and small teams.

#### Before you buy

Where it is strong:

- Many scanners in one platform
- Fix suggestions next to findings
- Covers code and cloud together

Ask in the demo:

- Test scan depth on your main codebase
- Ask how findings are ranked to cut noise
- Ask how pricing grows with developers and repos

#### Our take

OX Application Security is an application security posture management platform. It pulls findings from its own 10 scanners and from tools you already run, such as Checkmarx, Coverity, Fortify, Semgrep and SonarQube. It ranks them with CVSS, CISA KEV and EPSS data. Its Code Projection maps what runs in production back to the code, so it can show which flaws can actually be reached. It also adds attack paths, a pipeline bill of materials and AI fixes inside developer workflows, and it connects to GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket and Azure Repos.

It earns its place because it sits above your scanners and decides what to fix first, which suits a team drowning in findings from several products. Ask how much of its value depends on connecting your runtime, since reachability is where it differs most.

#### OX Application Security main features

- Code Projection technology mapping runtime behavior to source code
- Software Composition Analysis (SCA) for open-source component risks
- Risk-based vulnerability prioritization with CVSS, CISA KEV, and EPSS
- Attack path analysis visualization
- Pipeline Bill of Materials (PBOM) generation

Each cell shows how many of the function's NIST CSF 2.0 categories the solution maps to, with the category names.

A product helps you reach these outcomes, but it does not make you compliant on its own. Your people and processes do the rest.

## CISO checklist for selecting an Application Security product

Work through these steps in order to go from a vague need to a contract you can defend.

1. **List your apps, languages and where each one runs.** Coverage gaps in a language or app type are the most common reason a scanner disappoints.
2. **Decide whether you need code scanning, runtime protection or both first.** They solve different problems, and most budgets cannot start both at once.
3. **Run a trial on one of your largest repositories.** Scan time and finding volume on real code tell you more than any demo.
4. **Count the findings worth fixing out of the total.** Noise decides whether developers trust the results or ignore them.
5. **Check that findings appear in the editor, pull request and pipeline.** Developers fix what they see where they work.
6. **Test fix suggestions on a few real flaws.** Good fixes save developer hours; bad ones cost trust.
7. **Confirm links to your code hosts, build servers and ticketing.** Missing links mean manual work for every finding.
8. **Check open-source license reports with your legal team.** License risk is a legal question, not only a security one.
9. **Ask how pricing grows with developers, apps or traffic.** Customers in this category often mention rising costs at scale.
10. **Agree on who owns tuning in the first months.** Every product here needs rule tuning before it runs smoothly.

## Conclusion

Start with where your biggest gap is. If flaws reach production unseen, pick a code scanner that shows findings in the editor and pull request. Snyk leads there, and Checkmarx One and Veracode add broad coverage with central policy. If open-source and license risk worry you most, Black Duck Polaris is built for it, and SonarQube Cloud gives your team one quality gate.

If you are a smaller team, Aikido covers most scanners in one product. If you already run several scanners, OX ranks their findings in one view. Whatever you pick, test it on your own code and count the noise.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### What is the difference between SAST, DAST and SCA?

SAST reads your source code for flaws without running it. DAST attacks a running app from the outside. SCA checks the open-source packages you use for known holes and license problems. Most platforms here combine at least two of them.

### Do I need a web application firewall too?

Usually yes, but it is a different job. A code scanner finds flaws before release, while a web firewall blocks attacks on apps that are already live, including flaws nobody has fixed yet. We compare those on our [Cloud WAAP shortlist](https://cybersectools.com/shortlists/best-cloud-waap-solutions).

### How do I keep false positives down?

Test on your own code during the trial and count how many findings are worth fixing. Look for reachability analysis, which checks whether flawed code is ever called, and plan time to tune rules in the first weeks.

### Where should findings show up for developers?

In the places they already work: the editor, the pull request and the build pipeline. Findings sent only to a separate dashboard tend to wait. Check that fixes can be suggested right next to the flagged code.

### What is a quality gate?

A quality gate is a rule in the build pipeline that fails a build when code does not meet set standards, such as no new high-risk flaws. It stops weak code from merging without a person checking every change.

### How does licensing usually work in this category?

Code scanners often price per developer, per application or by lines of code, and platforms that bundle several scanners may price by module. Ask for a quote based on your real number of developers and repositories.
